The first cold spells are here and if you haven’t already, it is time to ensure you boiler is in working order and ready to keep you and your family warm throughout the winter.
Whilst the weather is still mostly somewhat pleasant and mild, it’s a great idea to get your central heating system running for a couple of hours. This will give you a chance to identify any problems before the cold harsh winter is here, so you can plan and arrange any heating repairs.
The best way to avoid boiler breakdowns is to have a gas safety check carried out. All those months that your boiler was not in use could have created problems with gas appliances, which can then lead to central heating breakdown in the winter months. So weatherproof your home by having your boiler serviced every year before the winter arrives.
Pipe insulation is an easy way to protect your home from blocked up plumbing systems caused by water in your pipes freezing during a cold snap. This happens to households every single year, so keep your pipes insulated and protected from rupture. Insulated pipes will not only reduce the likelihood of water freezing, but will overall improve your central heating energy efficiency and save you money!
Another important thing to check is your boiler’s water pressure. If the pressure is too low you will know because your heating system won’t be heating up efficiently or the pressure gauge on the front of the boiler indicating downwards. You can learn more by clicking here. However if the pressure is too high - you need to get a gas safety engineer to have a look at it.
